Aquirax Uno is the alias of artist Uno Akira 宇野亞喜良, a Japanese graphic artist known for his fantastical, psychadelic, often ero-guro (erotic-grotesque) prints and illustrations. He was born in 1934 in Nagoya, Japan. Influenced by his father, who ran an interior decoration business, he began drawing at a young age and studied under the painter Haru Miyawaki.
He popularized the terms イラストレーション "illustration" and イラストレーター"illustrator" in the lexicon of 1960s Japan, and has created hundreds of works ranging from advertisments to album covers to theatre posters. He has also served as a curator, stage designer, and artistic director. He continues to be active as one of Japan's foremost illustrators and graphic designers at the age of 91 years old.
